Dynaudio Xeo Wireless Speakers

Posted June 22nd, 2012 in Blog, Dynaudio, Wireless

I almost titled this “Wireless Audiophile Speakers” or “Speakers with Audiophile sound quality from Dynaudio”, then I realized something: All Dynaudio speakers have audiophile sound quality. Every last one of them, including the scraped up 15 year old entry level set I sold to a family friend fer nextanuthin a few years back.

Of the Xeo X3 speakers I had been reading the boring usual boring ‘best ever’, ‘a revelation’ ‘The X3s are Stellar’, blah blah blah all over the place, which to me at this point means Exactly Nothing.

So they arrived. So we plugged each speaker into a standard all electrical outlet. So we plugged the little Dynaudio transmitter into the USB port of the iMacJill. Went into iTunes, selected Dynaudio Xeo as speaker output, and WHAM! Music played wireless from iMacJill to the Xeo speakers!

But oh so what Music! It was simply the best wireless solution I’ve heard from iTunes. Wayy better than the old iTunes Airport Express optical out solution, and frankly just lovely in its elegance. Two slender power cords that plug into each Xeo speaker, and nothing else!

Ze Xeo, (zees Xeos?) quite frankly, BLEW MY SOCKS OFF! Both of them! White tube socks and black leather shoes clear cross the room!

The Xeo has a little IR volume remote that lets you choose Sources 1 thru 3 plugged into the transmitter. This is UNBELIEVABLY useful in that you can connect THREE of your regular components to the Xeo like:
Rega RP3 Turntable Wirelessly!
Your iTunes going into Source 3 (Source 3 is USB)
Your Cable Box’s digital optical out into Source 2. (Source 2 is digital)
Your way-cool Rega RP3 turntable into Source 1 (Source 1 is analog)

Huh, You’re sending TURNTABLE SOUND through wireless !?

Yes, kids, after noticing the remote control ability I moved our beloved Rega RP3 turntable over by the front desk (where I work), and ran that into a little Rega Fono phono stage then into the XEO transmitter’s Source 3. It sounds AWESOME! This is HUGE for me as I love to listen to Vinyl while working but needed a way to pick up the needle when the phone rings! I am simply awestruck by how great the turntable sounds through these speakers. The warmth and BIG BASS of a turntable totally comes through when you play through the XEO Wirelesses. In fact just for fun I hooked up our lower end Rega RP2 Performance w/Rega Fono Mini and found I could easily hear the performance difference between tables.

The last bit of way-cool functionality is that from the Dynaudio XEO Remote, you can choose XEO Transmitters A thru C.

So you may have your Big Stereo hooked up to one XEO transmitter with its little dip switch set to A, then maybe your Office Stereo hooked to a second XEO transmitter with its little dip switch set to B. Using the XEO Remote, you point it at the speaker pair you want to listen to, then you choose A (Big Stereo) or B (Office Stereo) to listen to!
