Vandersteen Treo loudspeaker.
Richard Vandersteen’s brand new high end loudspeaker is similar to a Quatro Wood but in place of powered subwoofers has an acoustic coupler to generate additional bass. The form factor is also a bit smaller and more room friendly.
On October 20th, 2011, we had the worldwide dealer premier of these speakers right here at Pearl Audio! Richard Vandersteen flew in to give the presentation. What’s quite interesting, and very Richard V, is the flew in an airplane that he built himself!
For the show we had Alex Brinkman from Ayre Acoustics come in with a full set of Ayre Reference electronics and Shane Buettner from Audioquest with WEL and Comet cabling to bring the system’s best sound out (I’ve seen pictures of Vandersteen Model 7′s in Richard’s own home with MX-R’s next to them!).
The new Vandersteen Treo speaker was absolutely beautiful sounding, and deserving of its several “Best in show” awards from its performance at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2011 a few days prior to our own show. It was simply amazing how quickly Richard got the sound of our reference room and placed the speakers. I’ve never seen anyone with such a strong sense of correct sound.
